Commission a painting

Commissions

I take commissions so that you can own a unique piece of artwork that encapsulates you, through and through. I work with clients to create pieces that are truly meaningful; personal to them and their experiences.

Commissioning a painting as a gift or to mark a special occasion can be a priceless gesture to someone that matters to you. Commissions offer an opportunity to work in distinctive intimate elements like song lyrics and invitations, that you wouldn’t be able to find in an existing piece. The scope is endless. It’s why I love creating them!

I use a combination of watercolour, acrylic paint and acrylic inks, printed media and stitching in all of my artwork, and I’d be delighted to hear from you and discuss your vision.

  • The journey

The initial stage of a commission involves working directly with you to gather information, inspiration, and for me to get a clear idea of what you want your end result to be. This could be anything, from photos of a special location, items connected to that place such as admission tickets, or anything else that you’d like to add to your painting.

You can come to the studio, we can talk on the phone, or email, or we can video chat. Whatever works for you. I’ll put a fairly detailed sketch together, so we’re on the same page about size, what you want to see included, and if you’d like anything added.

We’ll agree on a price, and once I have everything I need, I’ll start creating your painting. The speed of this process depends on how busy the studio is, but it usually comes to 4-6 weeks. I take care of the framing in-house.

    Your input

I welcome suggestions from clients, both commercial and private. Any reference images or information you can supply just gives me further inspiration, so share as much as you like.

If you’d prefer a total surprise, then you can rest assured that I am well-versed in creating unique paintings with meaning, and will only get in touch where absolutely necessary.

If you’re at the point of commissioning a piece from me, then hopefully you’ll have seen enough of my work to know that you’ll be pleased with your piece. If you’re unsure about the finished product, I’ll do my best to change it for you.

    Prices and sizing

Like any bespoke commission, prices will vary. It is entirely dependent on the complexity and size of the design. There may be an additional cost for a short deadline, so if you have a specific date in mind, please try and get your request in as early as possible.

If you’re unsure what you would like for the dimensions of the piece, or you have a specific wall you’re looking to hang your artwork on, let me know and I can advise on suitable sizing.

There is no deposit, and I will send you a final invoice once your commission is finished and ready to be sent to you. I accept payment by bank transfer, credit card, cheque or PayPal. If you prefer to make smaller payments over a few months, we can arrange a direct debit.

    Where to begin?

    Commissioning
a painting is a big task; you may feel like you have a subject, but no ideas, or vice versa! I understand how important this is to you, and so I strive to make working with clients on creating their unique commissions an easy and relaxed process.

If you’re struggling to find suitable images I’m more than happy to either meet you to collect physical photographs or documents (location dependent), or do a spot of online research myself.

If you’d like to chat with me, you can contact me on the details at the bottom of the page.
